Bargain bus travel helps kids get out and about

Posted 7th April 2008 at 13.25 hrs

There's no need for kids to be stuck at home these school holidays, as we are offering bargain bus fares for just 50p a ride.

For the next two weeks until Saturday 19th April, young people aged 5-18 will pay just 50p for any single journey on Velvet's route A linking Botley, Hedge End and Eastleigh. The "Fab 50" offer is designed to get young people out and about during the school holidays, when they may have time on their hands but not much cash to spare.

Since taking over route A from Solent Blue Line in February, Hampshire's newest bus operator has been struck by the number of young people using the service.

"During term time, our service is very well used by schoolchildren and college students alike", said Black Velvet Travel's Phil Stockley, "We enjoy carrying them, they have a good rapport with our drivers and we didn't want them to be stuck at home for the holidays due to the cost of bus travel. We want them to be our customers for many years to come, and that'll only happen if public transport works for them now."
